Weekends were never going to work. I do possessions — the network shuts down when everyone else is off, so that’s when I’m out there in the cold with a lamp. She runs a venue, so Friday and Saturday are her biggest nights. Between us we had roughly no shared weekend for a year.
So we picked Wednesday. Wednesday is our Saturday. Phones down, proper cook, nowhere to be. Her mates thought it was strange until they realised we get restaurants to ourselves and beaches with nobody on them.
Missing weekends stung for a while. Missing each other was worse. Once we stopped waiting for a calendar that was never coming, we got our time back.
